COMMERCIAL VOLLEYBALL COURTS
High-performance indoor and outdoor solutions for schools, clubs, and parks BY Court Builders of the Rockies | We proudly serve the Greater Bay Area, San Jose, San Francisco, Napa, Carmel, Sacramento, Fresno, and Reno areas.
Professional Volleyball Courts & Flooring Systems
For competitive athletes, the floor is part of the equipment. A commercial volleyball court must provide the right balance of friction, ball bounce, and shock absorption to prevent injury during repetitive jumping. For facility managers, that same floor needs to be durable, easy to clean, and resistant to moisture.
Court Builders of the Rockies delivers on both fronts. As a Class A Licensed General Engineering Contractor, we provide turnkey construction services for indoor gymnasiums and outdoor complexes. From retrofitting aging school gyms to excavating new outdoor sand or hard-court facilities, we build to the strict standards of the NCAA, NFHS, and FIVB.
Indoor Gymnasium Flooring Solutions
We specialize in upgrading facilities from unforgiving concrete or high-maintenance wood to modern high-performance synthetic systems.
1. Modular Suspended Flooring (The Modern Standard)
Best for: Multi-Use School Gyms, Churches, Rec Centers
-
- Safety First: Volleyball players endure high-impact landings. Our suspended tiles feature “lateral forgiveness” and vertical shock absorption, significantly reducing the risk of shin splints, concussions, and ACL injuries compared to VCT or thin urethane.
- Water & Moisture Proof: Unlike maple hardwood, which warps and rots with moisture, our polymer flooring is impervious to water. This is a critical advantage for facilities in flood-prone areas or those with aging plumbing.
- Low Lifecycle Cost: No annual sanding, sealing, or screening required. A simple auto-scrub keeps the floor competition-ready for decades.
2. Seamless Synthetic Floors
Best for: Dedicated Field Houses
-
- Pad-and-Pour Systems: For facilities requiring a seamless aesthetic, we install urethane systems over a rubberized base mat. This offers point-elastic shock absorption and can be customized with team colors.

Outdoor Commercial Courts
Activate your park or campus with durable outdoor amenities that withstand the Wyoming and Colorado climate.
1. Modular Hard Courts
-
- All-Weather Play: Our self-draining outdoor tiles allow play to resume minutes after rain stops, maximizing rental hours for your facility.
- Crack-Free Guarantee: Installed over a post-tension concrete base, these courts resist the cracking and heaving that plague asphalt courts in our region.
2. Sand Volleyball Construction
-
- Turnkey Excavation: Building a regulation sand court requires more than just dumping sand. We handle the pit excavation, geotextile drainage installation, and the sourcing of competition-grade, dust-free silica sand that meets collegiate standards.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q: Is synthetic flooring approved for high school and collegiate competition?
A: Yes. Our high-performance modular and synthetic systems meet the friction and ball-bounce coefficients required by the NCAA, NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations), and FIVB. They are used in national qualifiers and championship tournaments worldwide.
Q: Can you install new flooring over our old gym floor?
A: In many cases, yes. We can often install modular suspended flooring directly over failing VCT tile, aging wood, or cracked concrete. This “overlay” method saves your facility the massive cost and downtime of demolition and asbestos abatement.
Q: What is the standard size for a commercial volleyball court?
A: The playing area is 60’ x 30’ (18m x 9m). However, for commercial safety, the NCAA recommends a minimum “free zone” (run-off area) of 10 feet (3m) on all sides. We design your layout to ensure these safety zones are clearly marked and padded.
Q: How do we maintain a modular gym floor?
A: Maintenance is minimal. Daily dust mopping and a weekly pass with a standard auto-scrubber (using a pH-neutral cleaner) are all that is required. You eliminate the annual “downtime week” needed for refinishing wood floors.
