At Court Builders of the Rockies, we have designed and installed countless athletic surfaces across the region. We love what we do, but every once in a while, a project comes along that reminds us why we do it.
Recently, our team had the absolute honor of partnering with the Denver Nuggets, Kroenke Sports Charities, and the Arthur E. Johnson Boys & Girls Club to transform a simple grassy area into a state-of-the-art, Nuggets-themed outdoor sports court.
For us, this wasn’t just another commercial installation; it was an opportunity to invest directly into the future of Denver’s youth.
A Grand Opening Fit for Champions
The energy at the grand opening was nothing short of electric. Funded by dollars raised during the Nuggets’ historic championship playoff run, this court was a gift straight from the team to the city.
When the kids finally got to step onto their new home court, they weren’t alone. The celebration brought out the best of Denver, including:
-
-
Nuggets Royalty: Appearances by SuperMascot Rocky, the Nuggets Dancers, and the Hype Squad.
-
Pro-Level Coaching: The Denver Nuggets Basketball Academy coaches hosted a live skills clinic for the kids.
-
Local Spotlight: TV personalities and local news crews were on-site to capture the smiles, the dunks, and the pure joy of the community coming together.
-

Engineered for Safety, Built for Fun
While the kids were thrilled about the vibrant Nuggets colors and the chance to shoot hoops with Rocky, our team was proud of the engineering beneath their feet.
We installed a premium, high-performance modular surface specifically designed for growing athletes. Here is why this surface is a game-changer for the Boys & Girls Club:
-
-
Advanced Shock Absorption: The suspended modular tiles feature vertical cushioning that absorbs the impact of running and jumping, protecting young joints and significantly reducing the risk of shin splints or concussions.
-
Multi-Sport Versatility: This isn’t just a basketball court. The customized lines allow the kids to play tennis, volleyball, badminton, and street hockey all on the same safe footprint.
-
All-Weather Playability: The open-grid design means the court is self-draining. Minutes after a classic Colorado rainstorm, the surface is dry, safe, and ready for play—meaning the kids spend less time waiting and more time playing.
-
More Than Just a Court
Sports have a unique way of opening doors, boosting mental health, and teaching invaluable life lessons about teamwork and resilience. Hearing the teens at the club talk about how much this safe space means to them—and how it inspires them to give back to the community when they grow up—made every hour of planning, grading, and installation worth it.
We are incredibly grateful to the Denver Nuggets and the Arthur E. Johnson Boys & Girls Club for trusting Court Builders of the Rockies with this project. To the kids of Denver: this is your house. We can’t wait to see what you achieve on it!

FAQ: The Denver Nuggets & Boys & Girls Club Court Project
Q: What type of surface was installed at the Arthur E. Johnson Boys & Girls Club?
A: We installed a premium, high-performance outdoor modular sports surface. Unlike standard asphalt, these suspended tiles feature advanced shock-absorbing technology that reduces the impact on young joints, keeping the kids safer while they play.
Q: How was the new outdoor court funded?
A: This incredible project was funded entirely by the Denver Nuggets and Kroenke Sports Charities. The money was raised during the Nuggets’ championship playoff run through arena watch parties and rally towel sales, making it a true gift from the team and the fans to the Denver community.
Q: What sports can the kids play on this new court?
A: Because of the custom line striping and versatile modular surface, the kids aren’t limited to just basketball. The court is fully equipped for tennis, volleyball, badminton, and even street hockey, giving the youth in the Sloan’s Lake neighborhood a true multi-sport destination.
Q: Why use a modular sports surface instead of just painting the concrete?
A: Safety and durability are our top priorities. Raw concrete or asphalt is unforgiving on knees and ankles, and it inevitably cracks in Colorado’s freeze-thaw climate. Our modular tiles bridge those imperfections, provide lateral forgiveness to help prevent rolled ankles, and instantly drain rainwater so the kids never have to play in puddles.
Q: Can Court Builders of the Rockies build a custom commercial court for my facility?
A: Absolutely. We are proud to be an ASBA (American Sports Builders Association) Certified Court Builder, specializing in both residential and commercial athletic facilities across the Rockies and High Plains. From custom logos and team colors to multi-sport layouts, we engineer safe, professional-grade spaces.
